SKILLS MATRIX ASSESSMENT
This matrix is a tool for establishing any current skill gaps in the Eldership. Each elder will rate the other elders including themselves using this form. Ratings will be kept anonymous. The final averages per skill for the Eldership as well as each elder will be collated and presented at an Elders meeting.
Please rate the following for each elder (including yourself) using the number key below.
1 = Poor
2 = Below Average
3 = Average
4 = Good
5 = Excellent
DESCRIPTOR: The core spiritual and oversight responsibilities of the Eldership as distinct from the management team. Elders should display relevant expertise and experience for the benefit of the Eldership and oversight of the Church.
DESCRIPTOR: The Eldership should be equipped to develop, execute, and monitor plans that take into consideration:
1. the Church’s mission;
2. external opportunities and threats;
3. current and emerging trends;
4. key church distinctives, strengths and weaknesses; and
5. stakeholder needs.
DESCRIPTOR: The Eldership should be able to identify and mitigate potential business and reputation risks that could threaten the Church’s strategy and mission.
This may include experience or knowledge of auditing practices and compliance measures.
DESCRIPTOR: Understanding of the basic principles of accounting and the implications of their actions on finances.
DESCRIPTOR: Ability to interpret financial documents and trends to assess the financial viability of the Church
DESCRIPTOR: Understands how to build and manage key relationships; Understands best practices in engagement, retention, remuneration, accountability, succession planning, and performance management issues.
DESCRIPTOR: Experience in the adult education/training sphere and what is required for the effective running of a training enterprise.
DESCRIPTOR: Lead results-oriented teams and manage complex projects, leveraging information technology, planning and measuring performance, and allocating resources to achieve outcomes.
OPERATIONAL RISK MANAGEMENT
DESCRIPTOR: Ability to provide oversight of policies through an understanding of best practices in safety, security, and child safety.
MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS
DESCRIPTOR: Understands best practices and trends in brand management and public relations.
DESCRIPTOR: Understands governance and compliance related legal principles and processes.
DESCRIPTOR: Understands legislation and regulations and can distil the implications for the organisation
DESCRIPTOR: General overall knowledge of charities and not-for-profit management and oversight
BIBLICAL CHRISTIAN WORLDVIEW
DESCRIPTOR: Understand all worldviews in comparison to the CWV and their impact on the Church operations and serving the local community.
DESCRIPTOR: Understand the foundations of pastoral care and growing people
DESCRIPTOR: Sensitivity to and understanding of work of the Holy Spirit’s in leading in guiding Church direction.
DESCRIPTOR: Competency in knowing and teaching Biblical exegesis, doctrine etc.
DESCRIPTOR: “In general does each elder have the skills and competence to address the strategy of the organisation?”
